Berck-sur-Mer Beach-Cross: the first collection of used oil at a motorbike competition

On 17 and 18 October, during the Berck-sur-Mer Beach-Cross, Cyclevia, Yamaha and the event organisers carried out a brand-new trial: a collection point for waste oil and its packaging, was set up in the service park for use by riders and their teams.
As the first round of the Motoblouz French Sand Racing Championship, the event marked Cyclevia’s first foray into the world of motorcycling. Three collection bins enabled competitors to deposit, in sealed, watertight containers, the oil from oil changes carried out on site, as well as containers kept in their workshops.
The aim was to prevent this hazardous waste from being taken away by the riders and to raise awareness amongst teams and the public about best practices for handling, storing and collecting it.
Cyclevia arranged for the waste to be collected at the end of the competition. Depending on its quality, the waste oil could be regenerated for use in the production of new lubricants, whilst the soiled containers are shredded and then converted into energy.
