A SUCCESSFUL
FIRST YEAR!

,,

In 2022, we strived to lay our foundations: to put in place a sound and unifying structure able to immediately provide support for waste oil collection and treatment thanks to concrete measures. Our first results speak for themselves: it’s been an overwhelming success, both for the producer responsibility organization and for the industry as a whole.

Our team is now complete
With its 12 employees, Cyclevia now has all of the necessary resources to accomplish its mission, both in mainland France and its overseas territories, thanks to its two Partner Relations Managers and an Overseas Business Manager, who are all very much involved in the field.

Rallying the industry
This year, the challenge was to rally all of the stakeholders around a shared project. Nearly all of them rose to the challenge. To gain their support we conducted a membership drive to recruit marketers and to register oil collection and treatment professionals, but also local authorities, who are an essential link in ensuring collection from private individuals.

An industry-specific
relations management tool
During this first year relations had to be forged and trust fostered. Cyclevia developed a platform to encourage exchanges, facilitate the flow of information and secure data. An educational effort was also made to nurture everyday relations that are already delivering results, or when structural breakthroughs occurred.
Another of our priorities was to immediately respond to the needs of waste oil holders and offer support for waste oil collection from the moment that we received government approval.
By July 2022, Cyclevia had registered nearly all collection-transfer station operators and benefited from nationwide coverage, enabling it to offer free waste oil collection to professionals in both mainland France and its overseas territories.

209 kt
OF WASTE OILS COLLECTED
With 209,000 tonnes of waste oils collected in 2022 (raw data), 4942 tonnes of which were collected in French overseas territories, the scheme is now on track to achieve the objectives set out in its specifications for the next few years: 50% in 2023, 53% in 2025 and 55% in 2027 - on the basis of the oils placed on the market.
The funding organised by Cyclevia to encourage the outlet has paid off: 79% of waste oils collected in 2022 were delivered to regeneration operators. As for treatment operators, they have very much risen to the occasion, in France but also in Europe, opening the way towards great opportunities for the oils of tomorrow thanks to their know-how.

Local authorities

60% of self-deposit collection
points registered
Local authorities constitute the sole solution for private individuals. They are also essential allies in our search for the “very last litre”. Since 1 September 2022, the date at which their registration started, local authorities have been on board: 40% are currently in the process of registration, accounting for 60% of France’s self-deposit collection points.
A game-changer
for local authorities
Thanks to their registration, local authorities now benefit from free waste oils collection all over in France. Cyclevia also participates in funding self-deposit collection points. We are also striving to design turnkey communication tools for internal and external communication departments, with the objective of promoting waste oil collection and helping to protect the environment from this hazardous waste.

Overseas territories
Meeting with stakeholders
French overseas territories are paramount for Cyclevia. In just one year, we were lucky enough to meet with forty or so public and private stakeholders and to design the first solutions alongside them. Visits were made to Reunion Island, Guadeloupe, Mayotte and Martinique. In 2023 we’ll be going to French Guiana, Saint Martin and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon to continue our ground work and provide solutions that meet the requirements of each overseas territory.
Tailored solutions

In Reunion Island, 680 tonnes of waste oil were shipped to the French mainland by sea in order to be regenerated.

Trials are in progress to test new waste oils collection methods: mobile municipal recycling facilities in Mayotte, partnership with a vehicle maintenance network in Guadeloupe.

A specific waste oils prevention and management plan for local authorities was drawn up.

A study has been launched on Reunion Island to build a regeneration unit.
