Norauto, Carter-Cash, Midas and Chimirec : CYCLEVIA partners in a waste oils collection operation for private individuals

Cyclevia has joined forces with Norauto, Carter-Cash and Midas, and now offers private individuals 21 collection points for waste oils and their soiled packaging in 4 French regions. Chimirec is responsible for collecting and transporting this hazardous waste. By its nature and scale, this partnership is a first in mainland France.
A free and local service in 4 regions (7 counties “départements”)
Since the 9th of June and for a 6-month period, 21 new collection points will be created in four regions: Hauts-de-France (59, 62), Île-de-France (77), Grand-Est (10) and PACA (13, 83, 84). With unrestricted access, free of charge and located in the participating centres’ car parks (10 Norauto, 10 Carter-Cash, 1 Midas), these self-deposit collection points bolster the existing municipal recycling facilities network nationwide and provide a local solution for private individuals.
A comprehensive trial which combines the present and the future
Collection and transportation of the waste is carried out by the Chimirec Group who is well established throughout France. The waste will be collected, bulked and sorted. The collected waste oil will be delivered to a regeneration unit and for the major part will become new oil following treatment. As no virtuous solution is currently available, soiled packaging will be used as energy-substituting fuel for cement kilns and lime factories.
Promote sorting and convince people that it is useful
An awareness-raising campaign, supported by each of the chains and co-signed by Cyclevia, is accompanying the collection operation in the 4 regions concerned. Billboards, radio, digital media, signs and information at collection points will direct private individuals who carry out oil changes themselves. The purpose of this multichannel campaign is to also educate people about this waste which, because it is hazardous, is different from other waste as well as promoting best practice and creating new behavioural practices that will in time protect the environment and health.
